Art in the Library

Vixen Moon

Since 1975 1% of the capitol construction costs of public buildings are set aside for acquisition and permanent installation of artwork.  All the artwork in the library was submitted through a bid process and chosen democratically by a volunteer group of community members and artists.

Most all of the artwork hanging in the library was created by Kodiak artists, or persons who spent a great deal of time in Kodiak, like Huong Na and Nancy Taylor Stonington.

For a fun way to explore the library's art, look for the crossword puzzle available at the front desk.

Pictured first is Vixen Moon created by Rachel Organ, which is the most recent acquisition at the Library. It hangs in the Teen Room. Inspired by a fox seen at Chiniak, Rachel created this with colored pencil.
