Library Cards

Kodiak Public Library has a card tailored to fit your situation.

Please review the requirements and benefits of each category to find the card that best fits you.

Resident Card: A resident card is free to patrons who can demonstrate permanent Kodiak resident status by providing the following combination of two (2) forms of primary and secondary ID listing the same local address.

  • PRIMARY ID: Alaska driver’s license; Alaska state ID; military or Coast Guard ID; Kodiak city or borough ID; or, school ID

    • ​​​​​​​If above photo ID options are not available, a different form of photo ID, such as a passport or driver’s license from a different state, may be used in combination with a local rental agreement or utility bill. A different, secondary, form of ID will still be required.

  • SECONDARY ID: Printed bank check; motor vehicle registration; official rent or lease agreement; hunting/fishing license; delivered mail with applicant’s name and current local address.

Resident card holders may check out books (no limit), CDs & DVDs (limit 5 each), eBooks, audiobooks, and access library patron computers. Replacement cost for a lost card is $5. 

Residents 5 years old to 17 years old must be registered by a parent or guardian.

Visitor Card:  A visitor card may be issued to an individual who is a visitor, temporary resident, or a newcomer without the required residential identification. 5 years old to 17 years old must be registered by a parent or guardian. Five (5) items may be checked out on a visitor card at a time. The card cost is $10. A visitor card is valid for one year.

Institutional Card: An institutional card allows authorized staff of educational, cultural, and service organizations to check out library materials and access library computer stations. The organization is responsible for all materials checked out by authorized staff for institutional purposes. The institutional card must be signed by the fiscally responsible agent for the organization. If your business is interested in obtaining an institutional card, please call 486-8686 or come to the library and fill out and Institutional Library Card Application.

Guest Pass : A guest pass is for individuals 15 years of age or older who wish to use public computers for three days or less. The patron must present a valid form of identification to obtain a pass. Passes are free and expire after three days. 

Please note: Upon signing the library card, or library card application, the patron accepts financial responsibility for materials borrowed on the card. Financial responsibility includes full payment for any lost materials or equipment, the cost of repairs/replacement of damaged equipment or materials (cost determined by the library), and any fines and fees charged for overdue items. The patron accepts full responsibility for use of the card. For patrons under 18, the parent or guardian of the minor assumes responsibility for that minor’s use of library materials and to pay library fines, replacement and/or damaged and/or handling fees charged to that minor’s library account.
