Kodiak City Manager Mike Tvenge Received 2018 Alaska Municipal League Employee of the Year Award
Kodiak City Manager Mike Tvenge received the Alaska Municipal League (AML) Employee of the Year Award on November 15, 2018, at the annual AML conference in Anchorage, AK.
The purpose of the Employee of the Year Award is to acknowledge a municipal employee who has demonstrated ongoing dedication to his or her City and has demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, leadership, and motivation in his or her job.
Mike has been a City Manager since 2007 and is a former president of the Alaska Municipal Management Association (AMMA); he has mentored Managers throughout Alaska, has served on AMMA committees, and has presented sessions at the annual AMMA conferences.
In her nomination letter, Kodiak City Mayor Pat Branson listed Mike’s many accomplishments as Kodiak’s City Manager. Some of these include his oversight to revise the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations; his meetings with staff, especially public safety employees and adjustment to the salary scale to provide competitive salaries; his work with the City attorney to resolve several old lawsuits; and his diligent work with our congressional delegation and state legislators advocating for a much needed new Fire Station and Waste Water Treatment Plant. He has also worked with the Kodiak Island Borough in securing joint working relationships for the Building Department, E911 services, and Animal Control making local government more efficient and less costly. Mayor Branson praised Mike for his professionalism and stated he is a true public servent.
