NetSmartz411 is a free, first-of-its-kind online service provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and funded by the Qwest Foundation.

NetSmartz411 is designed to raise Internet safety awareness and provide expert advice; the site is an effective tool for every audience including: children, parents, guardians and educators.

For the first time, the general public—especially parents and guardians—have direct access to experts at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children who can respond to their specific questions and concerns about online safety through NetSmartz411.

Besides Internet safety information, NetSmartz411 provides families with general information on computers and the web (How to navigate the Internet, What are browsers, Information on Social Networking Sites, emerging technology, etc).

WHO ARE THE EXPERTS?

The NetSmartz411 experts are highly trained, skilled professionals with an exceptionally high level of Internet knowledge.

The NetSmartz411 experts are full-time employees of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and they go through a rigorous six month training period to better understand all areas of the Internet and emerging technologies used by child predators.

The NetSmartz411 experts’ primary responsibility at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is within the Exploited Child Unit and involves analyzing “tips” received through NCMEC’s CyberTipline.

The experts analyze the information and research individuals who groom and attempt to sexually exploit children online as well as those that victimize children in the real world.

They work closely with law enforcement and Internet industry leaders to stay one step ahead of these child predators.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS WHEN SOMEONE ASKS A QUESTION TO NETSMARTZ411?
  1. Individual needs to log on to NetSmartz411.org
     
  2. They can then search the knowledge base for computer, Internet, and Internet safety related material. Or they can ask one of the experts a question related to computers, the Internet, or Internet safety.
     
  3. If a question is asked the individual will receive an E-mail response confirming that their E-mail has been received. The response E-mail will assign each user’s question a unique tracking number.
     
  4. Questions will be answered by NetSmartz411 experts in the order they are received, with a goal of responding within one business day. Unique questions/answers will be used to further populate the NetSmartz411 library and build the knowledge base.
