City Wastewater Treatment Plant Awarded System of the Year Award
The City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant was awarded the Wastewater System of the Year award from the Alaska Rural Water Association. Kodiak operates a five MGD plus Class 3 wastewater treatment facility using pretreatment with fine screens and microscreens and primary treatment and secondary treatment. Their collection system includes 20 lift stations and 2,570 service connections. The facilities are clean and well maintained, and they successfully completed a biosolids composting pilot project in the last few years and have a new composting facility in operation. The wastewater operators attend training frequently to maintain their wastewater treatment and collection certification. This award is a direct reflection of Hap Heiberg’s work, attention to detail, and high standards.
