Fire Marshal
Fire Code
The City of Kodiak Fire Marshal operates under authority granted from the State of Alaska Fire Marshal via an approved Deferred Jurisdiction agreement between the City of Kodiak and the State of Alaska . Currently this service is extended throughout the Kodiak Island Borough Road System via a Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Kodiak and the Kodiak Island Borough.
Smoke Detectors
Operating smoke detectors save lives. The Kodiak Fire Department recommends checking your smoke detectors according to the manufacture's instructions and replacing the batteries at least twice a year. A good rule of thumb is to change your batteries when you change your clocks in the Spring and Fall.
When funding permits, the fire department may have smoke detectors available for residents that are unable to purchase them. Smoke detectors can be purchased al local department stores, hardware stores, and other retailers.
Fire Inspections
The City of Kodiak has a regular fire inspection program for commercial occupancies and will conduct residential fire inspections upon request. To schedule a fire inspection please call 486-8040.
